چکیده

Geospatial techniques can be used to assess the dynamic conditions of coastal land use and cover in order make informed decisions about future management strategies for sustainable development through a combination remote sensing data with field observations shoreline characteristics along coastlines worldwide. offer an invaluable method analyzing complex systems at multiple scales. The from Subarnarekha (Orissa) Rasulpur estuaries (West Bengal) Bay Bengal are dynamically modified by interaction between sea. This is due various dominating factors physical anthropogenic activities, which cause changes landscape. main objective this study was identify periodical transformation land-use/land-cover (LULC) features USGS-LULC classification using maximum-likelihood classifier (MLC) algorithm satellite images period 1975–2018. entire area divided into three ‘littoral zones’ (LZs). will help understanding how LULC has changed over time, as well providing insight human activities impacting on environments. focused five selected classification, namely, built-up, vegetation, soil, sand shallow-water areas. purpose investigate encroachment near shore areas soil built-up 43-year 1975 2018 geospatial techniques. To estimate areas, geodatabase prepared each feature. Finally, statistical analysis performed all available datasets, allowed researchers trends land-cover change 1975–2018 within category, such increasing deforestation urbanization rates increased population growth. results show expansion one major influencing erosion. Maximum shallow-water-level enhancement observed LZ I II. In I, shallow water 1 km2 4.55 km2. II, initial 1.7 13.56 km2, meaning increase 11.86 zones. A positive noticed vegetation area, 2.82% (4.13 km2) 15.46% (22.07 km2). Accuracy assessment applied classified images, more than 85% accuracy considered overall assessment. Kappa coefficient statistics were adopted complete analysis, 80% or obtained images. information also inform policy makers potential environmental impacts associated certain agricultural expansion, so that appropriate steps taken towards mitigating these before it too late.

Assessment of Terrain and Land Use/Land Cover Changes of Mine Sites using Geospatial Techniques in Plateau State, Nigeria

In this paper, we report a geospatial assessment of the selected mine sites in the Plateau State, Nigeria. The aim of this work is to determine the impact of mining on the terrain as well as the Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) of the host communities. The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is used for the terrain mapping. The derived impact of mining on LULC between 1975 and 2014 is determined...

Dynamics of land use and land cover change (LULCC) using geospatial techniques: a case study of Islamabad Pakistan

One of the detailed and useful ways to develop land use classification maps is use of geospatial techniques such as remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). It vastly improves the selection of areas designated as agricultural, industrial and/or urban sector of a region. In Islamabad city and its surroundings, change in land use has been observed and new developments (agriculture,...

Land cover land use mapping and change detection analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing

Land cover/land use categories are relevant components in land management. Understanding how land cover/land use change over time is necessary to assess the consequences of humans and natural stressors on the earth’s environment and resources. The aim of the study was to map and monitor the spatial and temporal change in land cover/land use for the periods of 1977, 1991 and 2016 and to predict ...

Modeling Land-use and Land-cover Change

Models are used in a variety of fields, including land change science, to better understand the dynamics of systems, to develop hypotheses that can be tested empirically, and to make predictions and/or evaluate scenarios for use in assessment activities. Modeling is an important component of each of the three foci outlined in the science plan of the Land-use and -cover change (LUCC) project (Tu...

Simulation and prediction of land use and land cover change using GIS, remote sensing and CA-Markov model

This study analyzes the characteristics of land use/land cover change in Jordan’s Irbid governorate, 1984–2018, and predicts future land use/land cover for 2030 and 2050 using a cellular automata-Markov model. The results inform planners and decision makers of past and current spatial dynamics of land use/land cover change and predicted urban expansion, for a better understanding and successful...
